Terms of Use

These terms are the agreement between you and Brightside (“we”, “us”) for the Walkabout app. By downloading or using Walkabout you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the app.

The service

Walkabout is a self-imposed focus tool: you choose app categories to lock, and completing a real walk unlocks them. You are always in control. The lock can be removed at any time by walking, by using a Rest Pass or your daily snooze, by turning off the Screen Time permission in iOS Settings, or by letting your subscription lapse — which removes every lock immediately.

Walkabout is not a parental control product. It is the owner of the device setting a rule for their own device.

Who can use it

You must be at least 13 years old to use Walkabout, and old enough to enter a contract where you live. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission.

Subscriptions and payment

Walkabout Pro is an auto-renewing subscription offered in two lengths:

• Weekly — $3.99 USD per week. No free trial.
• Yearly — $39.99 USD per year, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.

Prices are in US dollars and vary by region; the price that applies to you is shown in the App Store before you confirm.

• Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
• The subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
• Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period, at the price for the plan you chose.
• You can manage the subscription or turn off auto-renew in your Apple Account settings: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
• If you buy a subscription during a free trial, any unused part of the trial is forfeited.

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us, under the App Store terms. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to your licence to use the app, in addition to these terms. If the two conflict on licence matters, Apple's EULA governs.

Health and safety

Walkabout is not a medical device and gives no medical advice. Walk goals are set by you. Use your own judgement about what activity is right for your body, and talk to a doctor before starting new exercise if you have any reason to. Walking distances and calorie figures are estimates from your phone's sensors, not clinical measurements.

Pay attention to your surroundings. Do not use your phone while crossing roads or in traffic. Walk where and when it is safe for you to do so. We are not responsible for what happens on your walk.

Your account

An account is optional. If you create one, keep your sign-in secure and do not share it. You are responsible for what happens on your account. You can delete it at any time in Settings → Delete account, which permanently erases your cloud data.

Community features

This version of Walkabout has no social features. There are no groups, leaderboards, feeds, comments, messages or shared posts, and there is no way for one person using Walkabout to see or contact another. The only thing you write that reaches our servers is your own display name and chosen avatar.

We are building group features properly for a later release. When they arrive we will publish the community rules that go with them on this page, before the features are switched on.

Fair use

Do not try to fake or defraud walk verification, abuse referral or invite mechanics, reverse engineer the app, or interfere with the service or other people's use of it. We may suspend or terminate accounts engaged in abuse.

Availability

We work to keep Walkabout running, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Features that depend on your account and our servers may be unavailable from time to time. Features may change, and we may retire ones that are not working.

Ending this agreement

You can stop using Walkabout at any time by cancelling your subscription and deleting the app. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms. If we end your access without cause and you have paid for a period you have not used, contact us and we will help you seek a refund through Apple.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, Walkabout is provided “as is”, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for injuries sustained while walking, or for anything arising from your use of the app beyond the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

Apple's role

This agreement is between you and us, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for Walkabout or its content, and has no obligation to provide support for it. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will appear on this page with a new date, and we will tell you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Walkabout after that means you accept the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware and the federal laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be heard by the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you agree to their jurisdiction — except where the law of the country or state you live in gives you the right to bring a claim locally, which it may.
